The Daggers are a fleet independent from the Main Four, and are led by a Captain known as the Blade Admiral.

This fleet's crew is mostly comprised of deserters, outcasts, thieves, and overall scoundrels.

When the Daggers were in possession of the Aparatus, Amara Fate warned them about using or damaging it, so out of spite they decided to destroy it completely.

The Daggers are set up as antagonists in the early books, portrayed as an anarchist rebel faction that were openly fighting against the alliance.

However, they are later portrayed as anti-heroes and portrayed as freedom fighters in the later books, once the corruption of Skyfell was revealed.

The Daggers are largely a home for anyone who does not have a fleet to call home to. They are notorious for taking in people who have abandoned their fleet, criminals who cannot earn an honest life due to social stigma, and oppressed peoples who cannot make a living in one of the greater nations.

The general mode of operation of the Daggers changes whenever the title of Blade Admiral changes hands, though for most of the series they are portrayed as violent and coldly pragmatic toward anyone but one of their own.

Many members of The Four Fleets would go on to join the Daggers temporarily, usually after something put them in conflict with their fleet's leadership.

Their insignia is a dagger stabbed into the side of a broken ship's wheel, though Dagger ships rarely fly this flag, Dagger members often have it as a tattoo. Instead, dagger ships usually sail the flag of their original fleet or country of origin upside down. They continue to fly this flag until it gets worn out, leaving many flags of Dagger ships tattered and burned. This is done so that Dagger ships can very quickly flip their flag over the top of their masts in order to fly it right-side up and blend in with other fleets.

The Daggers are responsible for the deaths of several notable fleet members, including Captain Montgomery. It was their position that anything with the potential to become an unstoppable source of power must be destroyed. This was why they destroyed The Apparatus, but this philosophy extended to people as well. This is why the Daggers became anti-heroes when the fleets joined up against Skyfell, as they proved to be the bigger threat.
